New Trout Early Catch and Release Season!

Early catch-and-release season for trout and salmon opened at the start of the new year, Jan. 1, and will run until May 6th.

Anglers can now catch and release fish in most inland waters for trout and salmon. All licenses and regulations still apply so check out the 2021-2022 trout regulations.

Fish are very fragile this time of year in cold temperatures (especially their eyes and gills), so they should not be out of water for long periods of time. By releasing your fish responsibly, you are providing other anglers the opportunity to catch more fish.

What you will need:

Rod

Whether you’re flipping micro jigs under a particular overhang, launching a float and fly across the lake, or simply dunking worms under a bobber, a spinning rod is a must.

Split Shot Weights

Round Split Shots use jaws that hold firmly and do not cause damage to the line if used properly. The round split shot can be squeezed closed with your fingers and re-opened with a thumbnail.

Inline Spinner

The Inline Spinner is a proven fish producer across the board. These little lures produce a pulsation from the tail as it goes through the water and its spinner displaces water and flashes to attract fish.

Worms

Use a bright-colored worm, and you might have more success than with live worms. Every fish bites plastic worms, so trout are no exception.

Trout Lures

You never know what type of day you’re going to have and they might not bite what you want them to. Small lures work great as a backup, but make sure you have the right lures so you don’t sit there wasting your time.

Float bobbers

Floats are perfect for going undetected when fishing for steelhead and salmons. These stealthy floats have been specially designed for fishing deep water, rivers, and streams staying undetected to the fish while still providing the angler with a visual.

Last but not least

Don’t forget the waders, tackle box, net, and most importantly your fishing license!
